Sphagnum moss grows in peat bogs and covers body. When sphagnum dies, it condenses and forms peat. The peat then covers body in a “cold, acidic, and oxygen deprived environment.” Bacteria and fungi responsible for the decomposition of the body cant survive without oxygen, so the body cannot break down. However, the acidic conditions of a bog have effect on bodies: it breaks down the bones in bodies and leaves mostly the skin.
